bheemeshwari

If you are one of those nature lovers or……. Then “Bheemeshwari” is a “must see” for you. Situated at Bheemeshwari on the banks of the river Cauvery, the tented cottages and log huts draw nature lovers. It was a family day trip that I was planning for and had almost run short of ideas when the jungle resorts idea clicked to me after talking to one of my neighbors, and I am so glad we had planned this trip. Soon you’ll know why as well…
We started at about 7:30 in the morning, from Bangalore on a Saturday. It took us about three hours to get to there. It is past Kanakapura and the camp is about 5 kms beyond Muttatti. As we were reaching Bheemeshwari the road was all “kachha” so that was a bit tough on our backs. We reached there at about 10:30 in the morning. The place was very peaceful, and cool. We rested for sometime, which was much needed after the continues 3 hr drive!
There is no particular season to go there, its year round for nature lovers. Although, if you are very keen on fishing and river rafting then probably the best time would be during the monsoons.
As soon as we got there, we were given tea/coffee or lime juice which was quite refreshing after the journey. After that we went trekking. This took us about 3 hours. This is actually the first time I had gone trekking and indeed it was a great experience. I was just thankful that I wore sport shoes and not floaters as I had initially decided. Along the way we came across some funny creatures/insects I had never seen before.
When the guide actually showed us where our destination was, I didn’t think that we would actually get there and that too, so soon. Obviously while going I was thinking to myself ‘when are we going to reach?’ but soon afterward we reached the top. All I can say is it was simply worth every step that I took. It was indeed a beautiful sight. This 3 hour trek will give you a panoramic view of the Cauvery flowing through the valley below. We could also see our camp from a distance. It was beautiful!
Well coming back, was as always, fast and on our way back we even saw an elephant. She had a bell around her so the guide could trace her easily and we went closer to get a better view. It was huge and even more majestic when you get so close. No wonder they call her the lord of the animals.
Once we were done with trekking it was almost noon and we were rather hungry. We had lunch at ‘Ghol – ghar’ which is the exclusive dinning area. The campus also has a lot of open area for one to relax with a tumbling net. For those who prefer a more quiet time alone, there were hammocks fixed outside each tent and hut. So we spent some time there just relaxing and enjoying nature.
After that around 2:30 p.m. we went in an open jeep to the bank of the river. There we were given our life jackets so that we could ride down the Cauvery in a coracle . As we started to move all was fine but when we came near the rough waters the boat began to go up and down along the waves. It was fun! For a moment I thought we would topple over and guess what I don’t even know how to swim. But there is nothing to worry and you also have a guide along with you.
It was about 4 in the evening, when we were done with our coracle ride…. tea time! So we had tea/coffee and then left the place at about 5:30 p.m. We were back in Bangalore by about 8:30 p.m.
Well, this was only a day trip, you can even stay over but it was peak time and we didn’t have reservations. So make sure when you plan a trip to a jungle resort do your bookings in advance.
To give you a quick idea about what we had in store for us, what we saw there was the camp which consisted of log huts and also well furnished tented cottages for those who prefer to be closer to nature. Since we could only spend a day, we couldn’t do many of the activities that they have available. But if you do actually plan to stay there for more than a day, then you can even do joy fishing. You can also enjoy river rafting during the monsoon season (mid June – September) and also campfire and barbecue.
The day had come to an end so soon that we didn’t even know how time flew. Well, just one word to describe the experience….”fantastic“. This place is a retreat for those who want to enjoy the calm environs with a dash of adventure away from traffic, pollution and concrete jungles.
